Week beginning 30th April

Evening everyone,

I just thought I would update my blog before I leave school.

First I want to start with the fabulous standard of homework I have been receiving from the children. It is great to see the children enthusiastically sharing their creative homeworks. It is clear the children are learning a lot of information which they are enjoying sharing with each other. I am aware that the children are not able to complete this work without a lot of support from home, so thank you.

Maths – this week in maths the children will be continuing with addition and subtraction. We will be focussing on one and two-step word problems.

We will also be looking at position and direction and the class will be creating a rainforest themed mat to program a beebot.

English – we have started looking at a book called ‘The Great Kapok Tree’. We have been doing lots of predicting and discussion of vocabulary. This week the class will write a letter of persuasion.

Geography – We will be using maps and atlases to locate the seven continents and then find out where rainforests are in the world.

Monday – Year 1 PE and Year 2 OWL.

Tuesday – Watching Badgers dress rehearsal play in the hall.

Friday – PE with me for both year groups.

If I think of anything else, I will add it over the weekend. Have a great weekend 🙂

Animazing day!!!

We have had the most amazing day today. We have learnt an incredible amount of facts about a range of animals. We have found out about toads, dart frogs, tree frogs, tarantulas and a blue tongue skink. We then got to hold hissing cockroaches, a giant prickly stick insect and a python. Please ask your child to tell you all about it. 🙂

Multiskills Festival

I have decided it makes more sense for the children to bring their PE kits home tomorrow night. Then both Year groups can get changed into their kits at home on Thursday morning. The children can then spend the day in their kits. I thought this might prevent school uniform items going missing and children having extra things to carry especially if they are travelling with other families. Please do not worry about book bags on Thursday either.

I am remaining in school on Thursday. However, I am involved in the interviewing process for a new TA. Therefore, Viki is going to be with Year 1’s in the morning and Year 2 in the afternoon.

At Wivelsfield in the morning – James Water will be there to meet the Year 2’s.

Once Year 2 have returned to school, please sign them back into school at the office. They will then go around to the hall to eat their pack lunch.

At Wivelsfield in the afternoon – Claire Filskow will be there to meet the Year 1’s.

Year 1 will eat their pack lunch in the classroom before 12 o’clock. Please come to the office to pick up your child/children.

There will be no PE on Friday, so no rush to get their PE kits back into school.

Any questions, please see me tomorrow or e-mail me.

Thanks Gemma

Year 1 OWL

Year 1 visited the new site that Danehill School are preparing to use for OWL. We measured the area using trundle wheels. We then created maps showing all the wonderful things we would like to have in the site. For example, tables and chairs made out of wood, a shelter to protect us from the rain, a mud kitchen was a popular idea too. We also had the suggestion of a merry-go-round!

Week beginning 23rd April

Morning everyone,

Sorry this is delayed.

Wednesday – ‘Animazing’ in the classroom to teach the children about some of the animals found in the rainforest. Please can I have permission slips in to myself or the office. Animazing visit letter

Thursday – Multiskills Festival.

Please see attached letter for details. Multiskills @ Wivelsfield

Homework – On Friday I sent home a rainforest themed homework. Rainforest homework This homework is for the whole term. The children need to complete something each week or be working towards a bigger project. They can bring the homework in whenever they have completed it and share with myself or the class if they want to. The class have requested this style of homework because they want more choice and independence. Therefore, we are trialing it for the term. Please let me know your thoughts. I have attached ideas for maths on the sheet. However, if you would prefer your child to have anything additional then please come and see me. Please can I also remind Year 2 to continue to work on time tables (2,3,5 and 10) especially as SAT’s are only around the corner. Year 1 to be able to confidently count in multiples of 2,5 and 10.

I am very sorry, I forgot to hand out the spellings on Friday, therefore, I have asked if the children look over spellings that they have already been set this year. I will choose a few random words to see if the children have retained their spellings. New spellings will be set on Friday!

I have also attached an OWL timetable to the ‘letters’ section.

Thank you all so much for your support,

Gemma
