Week beginning 29th January

Afternoon everyone,

Hope you are all having a good weekend.

Maths – we are moving away from money and focusing on 2D shapes.

English – we have all finished our first draft of our stories and edited them. We are now re-writing them. We will then become illustrators before taking the books to ‘Foxes Publishing Company!’

It is great how much knowledge the children all ready have about the planets, this week will be our last week at researching and recording facts.

Monday – Year 1 OWL and Year 2 PE.

Tuesday – Parents workshop – ‘Communicating with kids’. I had this training during the INSET day in January and I highly recommend it.

See you all tomorrow πŸ™‚

Week beginning 22nd January

Afternoon everyone,

Maths: this is our last week on money. We are using our knowledge of subtraction to find change from a given amount.

English: Continuing with their alien stories. In small groups the children will be working with me to edit and improve their first draft.

Science: We will be matching a science investigation that happened in space in order to find out what a plant needs to survive.

Monday: Year 2 will have OWL tomorrow and Year 1 PE. If the weather tomorrow is very wet, I will not take the Year 2’s to the woods as I don’t want them getting colds. We can easily do the OWL activity in school.

Tuesday: I am not in for the day. James and Sarah will be teaching in the morning and James will be doing RE and Music in the afternoon like usual.

I think the rest of the week is as usual. Please can the children have their PE kits in school on Friday.

I have placed this weeks spellings on the BLOG. The research homework I sent home on Friday is for two weeks. This will give the children time to do the research and think of an interesting way to present their facts so it can be used for display.

Thank you very much for your support,

See you all tomorrow,

Week beginning 15th January

Evening everyone,

Here is the information for next week.

Monday: Unfortunately, both Sarah and myself are out on different courses. Lizzie is teaching the class with James during the morning. In the afternoon, Year 1 will be doing PE with Mike, whereas Year 2, will be having RE and Music with James. There is no OWL this week.

Tuesday: Sarah is still on a course but I am back! James will be supporting in the class during the Morning. Year 1 and 2 will be taught by me all day.

The rest of the week looks normal!

This week in Maths the children will be continuing with money and revisiting adding.

English – the children are working in small groups or pairs to write their own space story which was inspired by last weeks home work.

The class have also said they want toΒ  find out about the other planets so we will become researchers for this.

I have just realised that I have forgotten to save the spellings on here, I will add on Tuesday when I am back.

Have a lovely weekend and I will see you all on Tuesday πŸ™‚

Week beginning 8th January

Afternoon everyone,

For term 3 and 4 our topic is Space. The children are currently in the process of coming up with ideas on topics and areas they want to cover for this term.

English – this term we will be story writing. We will also have a real focus on handwriting.

Maths – Focusing on money, we will be covering place value, addition and subtraction. Any practise the children can do in shops with making amounts and working out the change will be very useful. Also encouraging the children to count coins, allowing them to practise counting in multiples will help.

Key dates this week:

Monday – Year 1 OWL and Year 2 PE (gymnastics with Mike)

Wednesday and Thursday – Parents evening.

Thursday – Space Drama Workshop

Please can I remind everyone to sign up for a parents evening https://calendly.com/gwalker/parents-evening/01-10-2018?back=1

See you all tomorrow πŸ™‚

Art day tomorrow

Tomorrow we are having a practical day, if possible, please could your child bring in an apron/old shirt to protect their uniform. No worries if you don’t have one.

Thank you, see you tomorrow.
