Week beginning 30th

Hi, hope you are all having a lovely weekend.

English –  The class were very creative last week creating their own machine and have written a great description to explain what it looks like and how it works. This week they are going to read on in the book and discover the machine (a typewriter) breaks! Therefore, they are going to imagine that their machine has broken and explain it.

Maths – This week we are looking at 3D shapes. The children not only need to be able to identify the shapes but talk about the properties. In order for year 2 to show a deeper understanding they need to make comparisons between two or more 3D shapes by identifying what is similar and different about them.

In the afternoons we will be continuing with our finger puppets. The year 2’s have already had a week’s head start and have showed excellent resilience. No one has found it easy but they do all seem to be enjoying themselves. I hoping Year 1 this week will enjoy it as well.

As Mike was off last week, Year 1 will be having OWL on Monday and Year 2 will be doing PE.

see you all Monday 🙂

Week beginning 23rd January

This week is creative writing week. We will be looking at the text ‘The story machine’. On Monday they will be creating their own machine through junk modelling. As the week progresses they will write a description about their machine.

In Maths, the children are learning about 2D shapes. At this age it is important that the children can name the shapes and discuss their properties.

Tomorrow’s OWL is Year 1.

Year 2 will be having PE with Mike.

See you all tomorrow 🙂

Junk modelling on Monday

If you have any spare boxes or yoghurt pots etc then please can the children bring them in either tomorrow or Monday whichever is easier for you! Don’t worry if you haven’t got anything as I have been collecting since Christmas!! The class will be individually making their own machine (linked to the text we are looking at) and if anyone wants to come in and help, then we will be busy making between 11am – 12pm. Thanks

Week beginning 9th January

Good afternoon,

This week in school it is SCIENCE WEEK! We will be continuing with our topic ‘materials’ and will be planning and carrying out investigations. I don’t want to give too much away as we are showing our Science learning during our Parent sharing assembly (18th Jan).

Maths – This week is Addition. Year 1 will learn to use a 100 square and year 2 will become more confident with adding two, two digit numbers mentally.

E.g. 36 + 21 =

30 + 20 = 50.

50 + 6 + 1 = 57

English – We are looking at the text ‘The True story of the Three Little Pigs’. First we will be making predictions about the story. Then I will read the story but leave out the ending for the class to write what they think will happen next.

Mon – OWL is for Year 1. Year 2 will have PE with Mike.

Tuesday – I will teach PE to Year 2.

Friday – Year 1 will have PE taught by myself.

See you all tomorrow 🙂

This weeks learning

Happy New Year everyone, I hope you have all enjoyed your Christmas break.

Maths – This week we will be revisiting place value. Year 1 will be counting forwards and backwards to 100. They will be counting in 1’s, 2’s,5’s and 10’s. If you could help the children with their counting over the next few weeks then they will feel more confident in class. Year 2 also need to do the above but they must be able to recognise patterns and fill in the gaps.

e.g. 24, 21, … 15, 12.

Year 2 will also be solving word problems e.g.

  • Harry had 6 bundles of straws and 9 single straws. How many did he have altogether?
  • Jo had 3 10p coins and 6 pennies. How much money did he have in total?

English – We kick off this week with looking at a version of ‘The Three Little Pigs’. We will be using role play to act out the story, we will sequence the story correctly and use the text to learn about conjunctions. Year 1 will be focussing on writing sentences with ‘and’ and ‘but’. Year 2 will be joining sentences with ‘if’ ‘that’ and ‘because’.

During the afternoons this week we will be enjoying practical science activities based on the topic ‘materials’.

I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow 🙂
